Anthropologie is the quintessential retailer that every girl turns to when buying their next wedding guest dress, new bedding, or go-to coffee mug. Also—who doesn’t get caught up in the whimsical vibe when you shop inside its stores? 🧚♀️
[According to Anthropologie](https://www.anthropologie.com/help/our-story), the brand caters to the lifestyle of their five muses: soft & delicate; boho-chic; easy cool; elegant classic; and modern sporty. A perfect visual of these modern lifestyles is [@anthropologie’s Instagram feed](https://www.instagram.com/anthropologie/). From everyday fashion-inspo to major travel-inspo, Anthropologie’s feed will leave you scrolling for days.
Colleen Cordaro, social media content manager at Anthropologie is the force behind its Instagram magic. Colleen majored in Interpersonal Communications, with a minor in Theatre at the University of Delaware. From working in public relations and social media for the Philadelphia Phillies, to now running social media at Anthropologie—Colleen is a seasoned vet on all things social. We recently had the chance to chat with Colleen and pull back the boho-chic curtain for a glimpse into a day in the life of a social media manager at Anthropologie.
There is never a typical day running social! The majority of my job is keeping the social team on track, and making sure that they have everything they need to execute on our channels. Whether that’s content for the feed, information for our Instagram Stories, or merchandising launch dates—making sure everything is aligned is key. Overall, my main role is to keep everyone on track and keep the lines of communication open between the different teams.
Being able to work with so many different people in various departments. Whether it’s working with stylists, merchandisers, designers, or copy writers—I love bouncing from group to group.
It’s so important for my team and me to represent the brand on social media. Since it's our world and we know it really well—we get the opportunity to pull ideas from various other campaigns and represent that on our social media channels.
We love to take inspiration from our followers. We like to see what she is responding to, what she's interested in, what things excite her, and what resonates with her on our channel. We take our lead from her.
We use Dash Hudson for all of our Instagram posts and stories. We use the Relationship IQ tool to look into influencers, and how they would work for our brand. All the analytics that come from the platform are great. We source our UGC from the platform, and utilize the Galleries feature to feed UGC onto our website and product page widgets. Then obviously, we use Likeshop (our link-in-bio) to make our feed shoppable!
Don’t be afraid to speak up. If you are in a meeting with a bunch of heavy-hitters, and they are talking about something that you can speak to, or that you know the answer to, don’t be afraid to say something! Obviously, know your place and don’t just talk to hear your own voice. But, if you have something valuable to say to help the conversation, by all means!
Definitely do your research. There is a huge difference between running your personal social media and running it for a business. Make sure you are aware of what other brands are doing, and what's working. There are multiple brands out there that are like a one-trick pony when it comes to posting on their social. But, if you know what’s new and interesting—that’s really impressive to someone like me.
Either my cell phone or my Chihuahua, Tito!
I am loving the long-flowy skirts with sneakers. Whether that’s a midi leopard skirt with white sneakers, or a floral mini skirt with sneakers–I love rocking sneakers!
I’m definitely modern sporty—any chance I get to wear sneakers with an outfit, I do! I grew up playing sports and being an athlete, so that’s my category for sure!
